2009 – Bailey Still Mising And Two New Booming Greyhounds

Posted by boominggreyhounds @ 11:27 PM, Tuesday Jan 13th, 2009

Its another new year and there is still some bad news but also some good news as well.

The bad news is that our brindle pup Bailey (Westmead Hawk x Matt And Me) has not been found since his disappearance last September.
It has been four months since he went missing. We are still hoping that he will return but realistically know that it seems more unlikely.
It would be like Christmas if he was returned safe and well.

If anyone can give any information then please could they contact contact the local authorities or phone us on UK 02380 666788 mobile 07902870286.
More details can be found on previous posts.

The good news is that there are two new editions to Booming Greyhounds.
The bitch pups have been given the pet names of Jessica and Sophie.
We are extremely pleased and hopefully look forward to them racing in the future.
More details about them will be posted soon.

Gary Baggs

Posted by boominggreyhounds @ 10:43 PM, Monday Oct 20th, 2008

It is with great sadness to hear that Gary Baggs the former Walthamstow trainer passed away yesterday after a brave fight against cancer.Gary will probably be best remembered as the winning trainer of the 1987 English Derby winner Signal Spark, as well as one of the most respected trainers in the UK.

He was one of the true gentlemen of the sport, genuine and always had a smile on his face when you met him.
We had the privilege to know him as Matt And Me was with him for a short time when she ran at Walthamstow.
He would always make you feel welcome and had a genuine love and understanding of the dogs. Had nothing but good things to say about the dogs, staff and owners at his kennel.
His attitude of giving respect to receive it was one of his many qualities. He was one of the most respected members of the greyhound industry.
Always with a smile on his face he would be happy to talk to you at any time. Even with the pressures that racing can bring.

Our thoughts are with his wife Brenda, son Darren and daughter Stacey.

He will not only be missed by everyone who knew him but by greyhound racing as a whole.

RIP Gary.
One of the most honest and genuine people in the sport.
You will be greatly missed.

Scarlet Ribbons Retires

Posted by boominggreyhounds @ 9:15 PM, Wednesday Oct 15th, 2008

Scarlet Ribbons has run her last race due to a reoccuring wrist injury.

She came of lame in the A4 graded race at Poole on the 19th September.
Running from trap one she was slow away from the traps but was still in contention.
Ruby went lame at the first bend and done well to complete the race.
She had previously come of lame with the same injury in a race on the 11th August.
After a two month lay off her wrist had healed up well and she came of fine after her trials.

The decision was made to retire her and she will be off to the breeding paddocks early 2009.
She is now resting and is recovering well with no discomfort from her wrist.
It is a shame that at less than three years of age she never got the chance to live up to her potential as a open racer. Though she had competed in two open races.

She will go back to Ireland to her breeder Johnny O’Sullivan in County Kerry.
Johnny also bred Bessie (Matt And Me).
Both Bessie and Ruby are from the same dam Mrs Gaffney.
Ruby will start her new career as a brood bitch in the new year.

Bailey Is Missing

Posted by boominggreyhounds @ 8:46 PM, Sunday Sep 21st, 2008

Our brindle pup that we have called Bailey (Westmead Hawk x Matt And Me) has gone missing.
It is feared that he could possibly have been stolen along with a black and white bitch pup (sired by Yeah Man). Though it is not possible to know for sure if they are missing or stolen.
They disappeared from Larry Byrne’s farm in County Wexford a week ago.

Larry has notified the police, dog wardens and local people in the area but there is still no sign of them.
We are obviously worried for their safety and are only concerned for their safe return.
Bailey is a five month old red brindle coloured dog. The black and white bitch is about the same age.

There is a recent picture of Bailey here http://boominggreyhounds.blogspot.com/2008/09/bailey-is-missing.html
He has been earmarked. Though we have not got the full earmarks at the moment, we do know that they start with the letters ID.
If anyone can help or know of their whereabouts please contact the local authorities or phone us on
UK 02380 666788 mobile 07902870286.

Ireland- Bessie, Pups And A Holiday

Posted by boominggreyhounds @ 10:49 PM, Monday Sep 15th, 2008

Just back from a great week in the Emerald Isle.

A combination of a family holiday and visit to see Bessie and her pups.

Mum and pups are in fantastic condition and are thriving well.

There will be of news and pictures of the pups etc in the near future.
It was a busy week and it was not easy trying to cram everything in, but we did it.
Saturday.

Our fast ferry was cancelled due to rough waters so we had to go over on the slower Super Ferry which sailed four hours later.

A rough sailing made a boat full of people sea sick.

We finally arrived at our chalet near Waterford late, tired and very hungry.
Sunday.

A trip to Larry Byrnes to see Bessie and her pups.

As usual the hospitality was great.

It had been a long time since we last saw Bessie and the greeting we got told us that she has not forgotten us.

Her pups are absolutely nothing short of smashing.
Monday.

A trip across to Dingle Bay to see Fungie the dolphin. Then a walk around the shops to spend some euros.
Tuesday

A visit to see John ‘O’Sullivan at Castleisland.

John bred Bessie and Ruby and it was great to see him. It has been a couple of years since our last visit to him.
Wednesday.

A lazy day at Dunmore East, our holiday home.
Thursday.

Back to Larry’s and another chance to see and take plenty of pictures of Bessie and the pups.

Also a chance to say our goodbyes and thanks for all the work done on the pups etc.
Friday.

Our last full day and a trip to Waterford to see where the Waterford Crystal is made.
Saturday.

The fast ferry is running and this time the trip is nice and calm.

Time to say Thank you and Goodbye to Ireland.
We will be back soon.

That’s a promise!

Booming Greyhound Stats – June

Date: 20th June 08. Venue: Poole. Grade: S2. Trap: 1. Distance: 640 M. Finished: 5th.

Date: 27th June 08. Venue: Poole. Grade: S3. Trap: 2. Distance: 640 M. Finished: 4th.

Another month without a win for Ruby. Her best was finishing second in the A3. The decline was probably down to the wrist injury she picked up during racing.
She came of lame after the S3, though it did not look too bad at the time.

Westmead Hawk X Matt And Me Pups – An Update

Posted by boominggreyhounds @ 11:47 PM, Thursday Aug 28th, 2008

Bessie’s first litter to Westmead Hawk are nearly five months old.
They are certainly a lively bunch and are starting to grow quite nicely.

They are being reared at Larry Byrnes in County Wexford. He is very pleased with them and has been saying good things about them on the greyhound Data forum (see the advert on the For Sale section).

All of the litter (except the brindle dog) are now sold.
A big thank you to all the new owners of the pups. We’re sure they will reward you well.

We have kept the brindle dog and have given him the pet name of Bailey.

There will be regular updates on the pups as they progress.

We’re off to Ireland soon to see them so will hopefully have plenty of photos to take back.

Ruby To Boom Back Soon!

Posted by boominggreyhounds @ 11:51 PM, Wednesday Aug 20th, 2008

Scarlet Ribbons should be back racing early next month.
Ruby came in season just before she was due to trial back just over a week ago.

She has recovered well from her injury, so the extra rest will help her even more.

Today she was keen and ready to get back on the track.
It has been over a month since she last raced.
Roll on September!
